As time progresses and I get older, I develop certain opinions and obtain certain knowledge. True, I am mostly passive about everything, but there are some things that make me tick, including Religion, History, Ethics, Moral, Etymology, Sociology, Psychology and the list goes on... Or actually no, it doesn't.
At some point I came to enjoy discussing these topics on a philosophical level, but I reckon that is not in everybody's best interest. I call the phenomenon of talking a topic over: "Discussing".
Now what does "Discussing" mean?
According to www.thefreedictionary.com it means one of the following:
1. To speak with another or others about; talk over.
2. To examine or consider (a subject) in speech or writing.
Now when I say i want to discuss something, I mean level-headed, rational, mature examining of the topic, but it seems that some people are just hell bend on considering that particular word as a very bad one. I consider a discussion something between friends, family, or people in general whom are actually not ignorant idiots.
Am I saying that you are a jerk just because you are not capable of- or do not want to discuss a certain topic with me or anyone else? No, not at all - but then who am I calling idiots? That is so very simple: I am calling the obnoxious people, who are so narrow-minded and set in their ways that they won't even listen to viewpoints and arguments, but merely makes the same statement over and over again, idiots! Those are the one's I am calling idiots.
As soon as a discussion becomes about winning, changing the others opinion to one's own, humiliate the other and so on, then it is no longer a discussion; Then it becomes a "Fight."
Why would anyone want to fight over something trivial?
Anyhow, it seems that a lot of people has gotten the two words mixed up - and a lot of these people funnily enough seems to be the pricks I just can't fucking stand!
But then why do we have discussions, if not for winning? Elementary, my dear Watson; That is merely, in my case at least, to gain greater insight into the topic and come to understand why the world is at it is, and its inhabitants are as they are.
As a little finisher to this topic, I want to share a quote (As good as I remember it) of Socrates. See, Socrates had visited an Oracle, I do not remember which one, and Socrates had this to say about it: "The Oracle called me the wisest Greek of all. Not because I know the most, but because I, of all the Greeks, know that I know nothing."
